Mate, the hugely exciting first project from New Old Friends was produced in association with the Theatre Royal Bath’s egg studio. It ran for three nights to great acclaim and was officially a sell-out.
Mate is a brand new comedy concerned with the lives of two friends, Will and Toni, who share a flat. Their lives are pleasantly uneventful until a third mate, Wes, shows up. Wes isn’t unpleasant or unliked, he’s just a mate but you know…
Moments from the original performances of Mate proved somewhate contentious, but overall it was considered a resounding success. So much so in fact that after some innovative re-writes and developments the show reappeared in Spring 2009 at The White Bear Theatre Club in Kennington from May 12th-16th where it once again emerged as a success, (even requiring extra seating to be brought in on the last night, and with several audience members still being turned away).
Building on it’s London success Mate then returned home to Bath, this time at The Rondo Theatre, as part of the 2009 Bath Fringe Festival for one night only on June 3rd. The show was well received again and we are now looking into various development paths for the play, ranging from more stage performance around the country to possible TV adaptations.
